• Okada taught that all
other religions are only partially true.
Sukyo Mahikari aims to unite all religions, and claims that "The
origin of the world is one, the origin of all human beings is one,
and the origin of all religions is one." For what it's worth,
Mahikari is not the only religion to make this particular claim.
On the face of it, "the origin of all religions is one" sounds
like a reasonable claim, and the aim of uniting religions sounds
highly commendable. However, what concepts lie behind these
statements?
According to Okada's teachings, all religions do have a common
origin, but all religions other than Sukyo Mahikari are only
partially true. He claims that other religions were appropriate at
the time they began, but that it is now time for all religions to
return to their common origin. In other words, to conform to God's
will, all other religions must now conform to Sukyo Mahikari
teachings. This is what Sukyo Mahikari really means by "uniting all
religions".
In practice, Sukyo Mahikari does welcome new members who are
already members of other religions. Then, if there are clashes
between the beliefs of Mahikari and the person's original beliefs,
they then encourage these new members to give priority to Mahikari
beliefs.
Sukyo Mahikari's claim that it does not regard itself as the only
path to God is, I think, clearly contradicted by the content of the
revelations and Okada's teachings. I'll leave it to you to read the
following quotes from teachings and decide for yourself whether or
not your current religion and Sukyo Mahikari are compatible.
From Sunkyo, P. 25 (teachings given by Okada)
The various religions of today have even come to be called
religions for the handling of funeral services, faiths of sacred
music and dancing that use God, or just sight-seeing enterprises.
They have lost their power to perform spiritual miracles and give
salvation and cannot save mankind or solve the world's problems. The
more you support such religions and traditions the more you will be
standing in the way of the progress of the divine plan.
The following quotes are all from Goseigen (the book of
revelations). Generally, people are not allowed to read this book
unless they are already members of Sukyo Mahikari. However, since the
publicity material concerning other religions is contradicted by what
people are taught after they join Mahikari, I feel it is only fair to
publish the following quotes here.
In these passages, the speaker is God and he is talking to Okada
(or so Okada claimed).
P.73
There is "distortion" in all Shintoism, Buddhism, and Christianity.
Here also exists one of the causes of another quake in this world and
the chaos of the world. Thou shall correct them to the best of Thy
ability.
There is no other spiritual path than to nurture godly men and let
them survive for the next civilization. Thou shall let them repent.
Do not think of it as hardship.
P. 140
Therefore, religions have come to an end and all mankind cannot but
altogether choose the way of Tuning-in-with-God (KAMIMUKI). It is a
big mistake made by religious leaders to have guided men to turn to
the right. The time has come when they have to be made to turn to the
left. Do thou understand?
The faith (SHINJIN) based on Tuning-in-with-God is the true form
of the religious belief (SHINKO). It was the original form in the
ultra-ancient Divine Era (KAMIYO).

All religions (SHUKYO) cannot but go back to their origin which is
the supra-religious teaching (SUKYO).

Thus religious belief was originally allowed as a convenient method
before the coming of the true belief in God based on
Tuning-in-with-God (KAMIMUKI). Since it has been misled in an
unexpected direction, I have sent ones with the role to destroy it.
If men do not realize, I cannot but promote the preparation for the
"Fire of Gehenna" on earth.
......
Priests of Shinto, Christianity and Buddhism, abandon your
masquerading costumes and man-made titles. Cut off your eyes and
hands of obstinacy and delusion. Become harmonious and stand in line.
Thus, let them be united with the Divine Plan of SU-NO-KAMI and
spiritually elevate to attain godhood. When this is done, they, for
the first time, can meet the Divine Will; and their prayer can reach
God.

The true belief in God based on Tuning-in-with-God (KAMIMUKI) will
prosper forever; and mankind will accordingly turn into the world of
Wondrous eternal prosperity all of a sudden. God can at that time
make men establish Heaven on earth. Unless men become aware of this,
the religious belief and religions will become not only opium, but
also the very cause of leading mankind to destruction; and finally
they will become the most hazardous enemy against mankind. God is
carrying on with this concern.

In the realm of God's Arrangement, the age of religions, in other
words, the age of human's brake religions has come to an end. That is
what I made people call "the End of the World." Whatever man-made
theories may be attempted and however men may struggle, all are in
vain.
Mankind, it is the time of "the restoration of the age of
Supra-Religious Teaching (SUKYO)." It is the time to return to it.

Religious denominations and sects have deteriorated the
Supra-Religious Teaching (SUKYO) which originally had the role of
uniting all mankind into religions. They have used it as a means of
making the current of human thought chaotic and separated or just
made use of it only for the survival of religions.
P. 148
What are the five major religions and ideologies for? Deeply and
carefully ponder. Let them realize their serious sin. Otherwise,
there will not be any method available to save them.
I am going to make religions go back to the origin, the
Supra-Religious Teaching. You, humans, are still unnecessarily
causing bloodshed even within nations and increasing suffering and
trouble within families. Moreover, without being able to have even a
piece of wisdom (human's trivial wisdom) to solve these problems, you
have been getting more impatient because nothing turns out well
enough to meet your expectation; and no one has been able to become a
dweller in the terrestrial Heaven. I cannot but make you realize that
the cause of this condition, is that you have been forced to go
through the serious compensation (AGANAHI) of the collective negative
karma of mankind.
The world shall become increasingly worse. I shall let it go more
deeply into the condition of numerous compensations with blood, flesh
and materials.
Those who become awakened, start departing. Depart. It is the time
of Heaven when the karmic fate has come for religions to let men
depart from religious denominations and sects to become ones of
Supra-Religious Teaching (SUKYO) as soon as possible.

I made Gautama and Jesus be aware of this. However, their followers
twisted it somewhere and at some time and began to call themselves
Shintoists, Buddhists and Christians at their own discretion without
God's order to do so. They began to be absorbed in producing their
own selfish manner of religious faith and have completely destroyed
the true aspect of the Supra-Religious Teaching and the Divine World.
They have no value at all. If religions remain in the present
condition, they will only give a hundred harms and no profit for the
unity of mankind in the eyes of God. They become much worse than
massive, but worthless existences.
.....
It is religious leaders themselves that have made Me decide to let
religions be destroyed. Even among priests of Shinto, Buddhism and
Christianity, the number of those who suffer from serious diseases
such as asthma and paralysis from stroke, death at a young age and
unhappiness has increased and even the number of evil men has also
increased. Moreover, the world is getting worse and worse. Thou shall
let them take a look at it and let them attain realization.
They have lost sight of the true entity of religion and, what is
worse, separated into denominations and sects. They are absorbed in
false slogans of maintaining their religion and protecting their
traditions, are they not?
P. 182
If you wish to become God's chosen people for the Age hereafter, you
should not be controlled by temporary and man-made religions and
religious sects. You should keep a burning desire to accomplish God's
Will and the Divine Plan and persistently make effort day and night
to manifest the condition of God's Kingdom upon the earth.
P. 185
The age shall be changed into one of strictness when God will not be
pleased with superficial and empty apology, empty compliment,
meaningless doxology, and flattery with an empty prayer. It will
become a grave age because most of those who are in politics,
Shintoist priests, Buddhist priests, Christian pastors, and those,
who conceitedly regard themselves as faithful ones, will turn out to
be good achievers of exploiting God. They will be unmasked or turn
out to be harmful to the world, and sooner or later they are fated to
perish.

All priests and people of Shinto, Buddhism and Christianity must
return to the original teachings, which existed in the days of
Gautama and Jesus, who followed the Master God, SU. They must become
disciples who are able to radiate the Light of MA (Truth). Otherwise,
the day of Judgment and the End of the World shall come.
P. 210
I am going to accelerate the evolution of this world into one in
which HITO, children of God, must ultimately respect SU-NO KAMI as
the Core and live in accordance with the Righteous Path (SEIHO),
which I am going to teach - whatever religions they may belong to.
Therefore, those who defy it, must be pitied.
If they lose the Core of SU, they shall only become like children
of boneless jellyfish. They shall be melted by God's Fire (Holy
Spirit of Fire, Spiritual Essence of Fire) and disappear. The world
is evolving into such a stage.

God, even with all His tremendous amount of patience, must bring
about "the world of Christmas (KU-RI-SU-MA-SU, suffering, tightening,
an end, satan, death) by God of Christ" (KU-RI-SU-TO, suffering,
tightening, an end, stop), since the Time of Heaven has come.

Christ did not die on the cross.

Jesus Christ is Buried in Japan?
Mahikari claims that this is the last resting place of Jesus
Christ. They teach he died on the same day as Yoshikazu Okada (The
founder of Mahikari and now considered by them to be the God of
salvation for humankind) on June 23rd (May 4th of the lunar
calendar), although around 2000 years apart.
In Mahikari - Thank God For The Answers At Last (1988) by
Dr A. K. Tebecis (The current Mahikari Australia-Oceania Regional
Director), we found the following (on page 355):
"....Gould published his views in full in an article entitled The
Man from Isohara (Gould, 1978).
The "Kirisuto legend" (Kirisuto is the Japanese way of saying
Christ) focuses on two ancient tomb-mounds in a remote Aomori
Prefecture (northern Japan) village called Herai, the name of which
has now been changed to Shingo. On the signpost on the main road to
the mounds is the Star of David. The two mounds are a few metres
apart at the top of a little hill surrounded by peaceful farmlands.
On the top of each mound is a wooden cross. At the bottom are two
signboards, one in Japanese and the other in English entitled "Jesus
Christ's Tomb". The signboard explains that Christ first arrived in
Japan at the age of 21 and after studying Ancient Shintoism for 10
years he evolved a doctrine and returned to Judea to teach it. The
authorities opposed this and decided to crucify him. Jesus' brother,
Isukiri, volunteered to die on Jesus' behalf . Christ returned to
Japan at the age of 37 and ultimately settled in Japan, passing away
at the age of 106. The remains of Isukiri were brought to Japan and
entombed, accounting for the second grave."
Tebecis goes on to say:
"I have visited the graves twice and have confirmed all that I had
read about the area. What surprised me most was the relative
complacency the Japanese seemed to show to the fact that Jesus had
walked in their country." (pg 355)
"In kenshu Sukuinushisama (Okada) clearly taught that Jesus did
not die on the cross, but his younger brother died in his place." (pg
360)
It is interesting to find that in a later edition of Mahikari -
Thank God For The Answers At Last (1990), the chapter containing
this information was removed.

• The original Mahikari
organization has already split into factions.
The organization founded by Yoshikazu Okada on August 28, 1959,
was originally called Yokoshi Tomo no Kai, and he changed that name
to Sekai Mahikari Bunmei Kyodan (SMBK) in 1963.
When Yoshikazu Okada died, on June 27 1974, the organization split
into two factions: one headed by Keishu Okada, and the other by Sakae
Sekiguchi. Initially, both factions continued to be known as Sekai
Mahikari Bunmei Kyodan. Even now, both continue to regard themselves
as the only legitimate "Mahikari".
On June 23, 1978, Keishu announced that she had formally
registered her faction under the name Sukyo Mahikari. Since the
organization I belonged to is Sukyo Mahikari, the comments made in
this website refer to that organization. However, since both groups
are based on the same revelations, and have essentially the same
teachings, the comments concerning basic tenets apply equally to both
groups.
Personally, since I no longer believe Okada's revelations and
teachings are valid, I see little point in pursuing the question of
which group is the "legitimate" one. However, if you wish, you can
read the details of the controversy under Uniting the World
Religions on the Mahikari
Exposed website, and read transcripts from the ensuing court case
here.
Suffice it to say that, despite Okada's aim of uniting all
religions, his own organization has already come to grief in that
regard. In addition to the above major split, there are also several
other religious groups which trace their origins to Yoshikazu Okada.
